This is a new mini series I’ll be trying to do every now and again, this series will not be limited to film, there will be film, gaming and TVs shows thrown into the mixture just to make it that much more interesting.

These “Top X” videos will be uploaded onto Akroview’s YouTube channel, which you can find here. They will then be uploaded to Akroview.com. (more…)

Nowadays we live in a  world where everything is digital now, books can be read online, kindles are the new fashion accessory, movies can be streamed online and even the majority of the TV shows that people watch seemed to be streamed from their laptop on their TV. This actually prompted a bill to be passed here in Ireland to tax the people if they owned an electronic device that could have access to the internet and could stream tv shows, since it was costing the government because people didn’t need to buy a TV license to watch their shows on the TV. This didn’t last very long, there was outrage because this affected people that didn’t own a TV too. They had all the entertainment they needed either sitting on their lap or hiding away in their pocket.

This new realm of digital purchasing has been especially prevalent in the gaming world with almost all of the standard edition of games being bought on online marketplaces and through stores built into the consoles themselves. Although this is a handy and easy way to get gamers their games it doesn’t have the same feeling of waiting outside a games store for a midnight launch, call me old fashioned but I still love the excitement of that. (Yes I know..NEEEERRRRDDDD!!!)

For years I have been fascinated at gaming tournaments all over the globe,  but one thing that always confused me was that it is actually classed as a sport! Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not hating on it being called a sport, if anything it can require more skill and concentration to kick a ball of rubber around a patch of grass. But still that has more of an appeal for the majority of people nowadays!

I remember years ago there was a new show on Sky 1 here in Ireland and it’s soul purpose was to show off some mini gaming tournaments with local people joining as a team to battle in a vast array of popular titles and it was awesome! It aired on Christmas Eve of I remember correctly, the only reason I remember that was because I ran out of the room to watch it in the kitchen and felt kind of awkward because everyone was inside playing a board game while I was out in the kitchen screaming at a stranger for missing a combo in Soul Caliber! So in part one I touched upon the more hyped up games that will be appearing on the new Xbox One, but there was a lot more on show. The four that were reviewed in the first part were ones that I was eager to get my hands on and did so with an already one sided opinion on what these games would be like, but there was a whole lot of other games that I was new to and was first introduced to at the event. I was quite surprised at the quality and gameplay of these games and it only further reinforced the notion of me purchasing an Xbox One in the near future. So lets get cracking into some of the lesser hyped games appearing on the Xbox One.

Below you will see the games that actually are able to push to the top of the fun list when it comes to next gen consoles, leaving graphics behind and focusing more on the players experience whilst playing to provide a very enjoyable experience. (more…)

The Xbox One World Tour has graced the emerald Isle for the weekend and lucky Xbox enthusiasts will be able to test out their favourite games before the official launch next week. I got to go to a special preview and got hands on with the Xbox One. I walk into the hall and there it was, the future of gaming, sitting there in front of me. I never would’ve thought that I would be able to get to play this console until sometime next year but there it was and the staff member hands me the controller and asks will I play him in a vs. match of the new Killer Instinct. How could I refuse!

This event was mainly showcasing the launch titles that the Xbox One has to offer and didn’t really touch on the hardware side of things. But I will say this, the controller feels so much better than the previous 360 pad. It feels lighter, more streamlined and fits to your hands so damn perfectly it’s insane. Eliminating the bulky battery back to make it lighter and giving the player more freedom to rest their fingers on the back of the controller was a great touch. I did feel that the bumper buttons (LB & RB) felt quite stiff at times and during a game of COD: Ghosts i really had to search for the buttons and press down very sharply to get them to throw the grenade. Smart phones at the ready!

We all remember the craze that swept the iPhones of the majority of country last year, such a simple concept but with such an amazing response. You run…that’s basically it. I could almost imagine developers such as EPIC and Activision looking at workers on their breaks playing this game and thinking to themselves” How is this so addicting?!!” and to be honest I don’t know either, but it is!

The story alone is so simple, oh shit I robbed an artefact and now I’m being chased by some really pissed off monkey demons I better run! I know I’m dumbing it down and that there could be a true meaning behind what’s going on, but sadly I have not seen it…you just run!

But then it came to android and now I finally got a chance to play the elusive Temple Run, and against all odds…I didn’t like it. Now calm down I’m entitled to my opinion too, I didn’t see why people got so worked up over it, I guess it was the competition side of things that made it so popular, still didn’t work for me. But then I found out that there were a couple more games out there that took inspiration from Temple run but made it entirely different, here are just 5 of the games I found. (more…)
