So we all got a little bit upset and scared when we found out the Irrational Games were shutting down and that the hope of another Bioshock game seemed dead in the water. But alas it seems as though there is a silver lining that we should all grasp onto with all our might!

So Irrational Games is dissolved and gone, that we know. But the rights to to game have been set in the capable hands of Take-Two, and what have they done with the rights to the underwater (and airborne) behemoth?  They have sold the rights to 2K Marin, the people that made Bioshock 2.

Now I know what you’re thinking, Bioshock 2 wasn’t the best in the series, but it did have some epic moments, especially the Big Sister fights, they still send shivers down my spine. But to make matters worse was that 2K Marin have since shut down…..yes, I said it. Due to lay offs and budget cuts the company ceased to exist. But there have been rumors that they have moved to set up a new company, but they still own the rights to Bioshock, since then they could have set up a new company and may have started to develop another addition to the much loved series.

Take-Two Interactive President Strauss Zelnick said at the Cowen and Company analyst conference. “We haven’t given any color on how you should think about it yet except we do believe [BioShock] is beloved; we think it’s important [and] certainly something that we’re focused on; something 2K Marin will be responsible for shepherding going forward,” he then continued to add “I don’t want to say much else except to agree with you. I think there’s a lot of upside in that franchise.”

So this is all good news so far, but just like being trapped underwater…I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting on a release date. But we should hear something soon.
